About Change this

Hans Hollein (born in Vienna, March 30th, 1934) is an Austrian architect and designer. Hollein studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Clemens Holzmeister, at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago and at the University of California, Berkeley. From 1963 to 1964 and in 1966 he was a guest professor at Washington University; and from 1967 to 1976 professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf. since 1976 is a professor at the Hochschule für angewandte Kunst (now University of Applied Arts) in Vienna.

As one of the pioneers of postmodern architecture, Hollein's design is based on anti-typological and anti-structural forms. He defines architecture as contextual art, as research and comment. Sculptural elements appear in various forms in his buildings.

He had alo several exhibitions, e.g. "Die Türken vor Wien" (1983) and "Traum und Wirklichkeit" (1984). From 1991 to 1996 presided at the Architecture Biennale in Venice (Italy). Awards include the Grand Austrian State Prize 1983 and the Pritzker Award in 1985.
