Monument of 26 Frozen Partisans Change this
Description Change this
The monument of 26 Frozen Partisans is situated on the Matić poljana in Gorski kotar, Croatia. It was constructed in honor of 26 fighters of the Second Brigade of National Liberation Struggle, which has, due to extremely low temperatures, frozen during the march on the 19th of February 1944. The author of the memorial area is Zdenko Sila.
The monument consists of 26 columns from limestone stones, symbolizing 26 frozen partisans. Since 1962, the Memorial of 26 Frozen Partisans has been held every year, which was renamed in 2004 in the Peace Memorial.
